Winnipeg defeated us 3-2 on Monday night at PPG Paints Arena, fueled by a dramatic three-goal surge in the third period. After a scoreless first period, WE took a 1-0 lead into the final frame courtesy of a goal by Ben Kindel. The Jets responded aggressively in the third, (WE did not) scoring two quick goals from Alex Iafallo and Adam Lowry to seize the lead. Although Declan Carlile briefly tied the game later in the period, the tie lasted only nine seconds. Cole Perfetti scored the game-winner on a quick wrist shot. Jets goaltender Clay Stevenson anchored the defense in his Jets debut, turning aside 29 shots to preserve the victory.

Sergei Murashov made 30 saves for us but could not withstand Winnipeg’s late-game physical push combined with the mountain of drek that was our defence on Monday night. Fuck all that, moving on.

The rivalry renewed, tonight we visit the Washington Capitals for another chapter in one of hockey’s greatest battles. There is unique energy in the locker room whenever the Caps are on the slate. There is a collective sharpening of focus because we know exactly what is at stake. Shutting down their offense requires a relentless sixty-minute effort, and our blue line better be fully prepared to play a heavy, suffocating game to take away their time and space. We are skating into this matchup with a chip on our shoulder from a tough loss on Monday, ready to dictate the pace from the opening draw and secure the steps one more time.

At the center of it all is Ovenchicken, a player we must respect but also must despise. We know his tendencies inside and out—especially how he likes to linger in that left circle waiting to unleash his signature one-timer—and our main objective is to keep him completely starved of high-danger opportunities. Taking away his passing lanes and forcing him to chase the puck in his own zone will be key to wearing him down. Tonight isn’t just about managing one legend, though; it’s about proving that our squad executes a tighter, faster, and more disciplined brand of hockey than last game… like WE know they can.
