The Penguins were in Philly last night for their final game before their week vacation. This would be the Pens 11th game of the month on just the 21st day of said month. During that span, the team had two consecutive days off exactly one time. Imagine being in the third week of the month and you’ve only had one weekend off, and all that stands between you and Disney world is a quick business meeting in Philly. Yeah, your ass would sleep too.
As such, I will be putting an equal amount of work into this recap.
The Flyers woke up a bit more, the Penguins continued not giving a damn. It didn’t take long for the Pens to cave, as Jakub Voracek scored 5:26 into the period.
Jack Johnson jumps up, Chad Ruhwedel leaves his spot because Malkin is “there,” I’m not going into detail, this is just lazy hockey.
The rest of the period looked a lot like that goal. The Penguins were dead. The Wells Fargo atmosphere was dead, may have been the microphones on the broadcast, but it sounded like a library. The Flyers took a 2-0 lead 18:40 into the period when John Marino got burned trying to carry the puck too long:
Marino with the initial turnover, Johnson with the should I block the pass or should I not indecision, easy goal. Rough look for John Marino. He occasionally carries the puck too long, something to work on, move on.
Flyers score on the empty net
GAME
THOUGHTS
- Some times the team isn’t going to have the effort, it doesn’t mean anything other than they are human. This is one of those nights, looking into any more than that means you need a new hobby
- It was good to see Jarry rebound after a few rocky games for him, he posted a solid .931 save percentage in this one.
- Missing another top 6 winger, Alex Galchenyuk received 8:59 of ice time… yikes
t’s that time of year folks! The third edition of the annual pens.hockey meet up game is here.
WHEN: Saturday, March 7th against the Washington Capitals
We currently have 20 tickets reserved in the lower bowl for this game. We are in talks with “our guy” to secure more if needed. To claim your spot please do the following:
- Send an email to penshockeyblog@gmail.com with your name (real or blog) and the number of tickets you will need
- Repeat step one if you do not get a response within 24 hours
Tickets are in the $130 range, we will be getting a final price quote today so check back later this afternoon to see if this line has been updated.
