After his second season as GM, Kyle Dubas returns home, weighed down by the pressures of another draft season. In a state of apparent distress, he empties his bank account and vanishes. The sudden disappearance quickly draws media suspicion.

Flashbacks, revealed through old WordPress entries, paint a far more complicated picture — a strained relationship with his coaching staff, recent personal changes that failed to take root, and a few angry goalies who had crossed his path. Kyle grew increasingly distant from his new city, longing for an earlier chapter in his life… a time spent walking among the maple leaf trees.

Detective Mark Madden, armed with nothing but a sharp tooth-pick and a box of fried chicken, uncovers poorly hidden evidence in Dubas’ home: a bloodstained draft list. Meanwhile, Spittin’ Chiclets learns of Pittsburgh’s financial troubles, heated disputes over game planning, and a disturbing revelation — Coach Mike Sullivan’s recent attempt to purchase a firearm.

Sullivan maintains his innocence, expressing deep regret for his own shortcomings, acutely aware that Mario Lemieux is watching. The televised interview is a public relations success, winning widespread sympathy for Sullivan. But behind the scenes, he has already collected enough information to make his move — and quietly flees back to New York.

With the balance of power in question, Mario calls upon Jaromir Jagr to uncover the truth… and to bring justice back to Pittsburgh.
