Since there’s about a week to go before the regular season starts and all the hockey currently being played doesn’t actually count, I thought this would be a good time to trot out the annual reminder that we could use your help!
If you’ve been a longtime follower of our little blog, you already know this, but for those few new eyes which might have come across us recently, this is a fan-run blog. We don’t get paid for our work so it’s literally amateur hour over here. The nice part about it is that anybody is welcome to contribute in any fashion they see fit. The bulk of the work needed here is writing. As of this moment we have just one consistent writer (myself) and I focus strictly on writing Gameday posts. For a time we had at least one person who would consistently write Recaps, but that has not been the case for a couple seasons. Our relevance lies solely in how many posts we can get up (snicker) in a week, and during the playing season that number is ideally two per game: one Gameday (preview) and one Recap. The good news is that you don’t need to be the kind of person who will be happy blasting out hundreds of words per post, but it would be nice to generally follow the format of our previous Recaps (the list of which was May 2022). Sometimes there are back-to-back games that require a Recap and Gameday in one, and sometimes there are off-days between games when the blog could use some creative filler. Most of the graphic work is done by SouthSideGeno, but he’s old. And as diligent as I try to be in keeping up with the writing schedule, even I get burned out sometimes and need a break.
Long story short, if you are interested in contributing anything to our blog, whether it be writing, graphics, or any other ideas you may have, please let us know at penshockeyblog at gmail dot com. Thank you!
I would also be remiss to overlook our fantasy hockey league. I don’t participate because I am terrible at it, but for those of you who aren’t, SouthSideGeno is administrating the league as he looks to defend his title from last year. There’s a $50 buy-in (I’m assuming you can win money for your efforts), so if you are interested in participating please join in the comments and let us know. And maybe just join in the comments in general if you haven’t already!
